How it works

The Built Review makes working documents from research on the built environment: reports, worksheets, factorsheets and studysheets, plus Trends. A report, a worksheet, a factorsheet and a studysheet are free to read. The full documents are the work, and the membership covers them.

The documents

• Reports. Scientifically grounded analysis of the topics that move the market. Each report covers one topic.
• Worksheets. Working documents for practice, with the science behind every point. Each sheet is written for one profession, from the architect to the asset manager.
• Factorsheets. A statement on one cause and its effect, supported by the studies in the collection that measure both. We decide for each factor whether the studies in the collection are enough for a sheet. The sheet then counts the studies that our review finds support or contradict the effect.
• Studysheets. The relevant findings from current research. Written for people who are not scientists, and ready to cite.
• Trends. Trend analysis of the market and the science in the built environment.

What is free, what you pay for

You can preview every document for free. The preview shows what is there and where it comes from. The full document is the work, and that is what the membership covers.

The API

Later, the same research will be available through an API: direct, programmatic access for teams that pull it into their own tools or run many queries against it. It is priced separately and well above the rest. It is the last piece I build.

What you won't get

• No tracking pixels, in the emails or on the site.
• No drip campaigns or onboarding sequences.
• No upsells inside the documents.
• No hype. I publish only when there is something worth saying.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get in the full document?

The whole document on the site. Reports and Trends issues also come as files: Markdown, and a printable version, with the same text as the page.

What does "built for AI" mean?

The Markdown files are structured and carry their context. You can feed them straight into an AI tool without cleaning them up first.

Is the full review free?

No. The full documents need a membership. The previews and the newsletter stay free.

What do Strong, Moderate and Limited mean?

They are grades for how well the research supports a finding. A studysheet is rated by the design of its one study. A systematic review or a randomised trial is Strong. A cohort study, a case-control study or an experiment without random assignment is Moderate. A cross-sectional study, a before-and-after comparison, a case study, a survey, an expert opinion or a figure quoted from another paper is Limited. Unrated means no study design is on record. A factorsheet is Strong once two reviews or randomised trials support it, or five studies of which two have at least a Moderate design. In both cases, at least 30 per cent of the supporting studies must come from the last 15 years. A factorsheet with two supporting studies or fewer, or with none of at least Moderate design, is Limited. Between Limited and Strong it is Moderate. The rule follows the Community Guide (Briss et al., 2000). As in GRADE, a reviewer can lower a factor's rating and never raise it. A reviewer lowers it when the studies disagree or match the factor only in part. Worksheets and reports use the factorsheet rating.

How does the newsletter work?

You sign up with your email and confirm once. You get an email when there is something worth saying, usually a new report. No tracking pixels, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

What happens to my account data?

I store your email and your sign-in. There is no password. You sign in with a one-time code, and you can have your account deleted at any time. See the privacy notice.
